WOMEN OF NORTH

An Encouraging Word

The Calm Before the Storm
It’s common for people to ask "how are you doing?" or "how are things going?" in general conversation, I mean, that’s just polite right? Over the past couple of years I’ve been more intentional about answering honestly, not just with all too familiar “Good. Things are going well.” This is mostly because friends and mentors follow up with the not so subtle call-out of “okay, now how are you really doing?”
Lately I’ve experienced a weird internal transition as I go to answer that question. I really am good, things truly are going well for me. Of course this doesn’t mean that everything is perfect in my world and that I don’t have burdens, it’s just that everyday life is not chaotic and overflowing with drama. What a foreign concept. Of course people might say “well hold on, there’s usually a calm before the storm.” And instead of being anxious of what’s to come and waiting for the other shoe to drop, I invite you to join me by receiving and believing that statement to be true in our lives.
You see, I believe that these types of seasons in our lives are God ordained. I believe He allows us to get our footing, stand firm in His goodness and be ready for a great movement in our lives. With the power of the Holy Spirit inside us, we will positively affect the environment around us; may the earth quake with grace and love. Individually we can exclaim “With Jesus by my side, I will not be afraid of the storm.. I am the storm!”
